For brainstorming I looked on Thing Verse for ideas and searched I phone holders on the in the google search bar and looked at images. I got some ideas, but in the end, the phone holder I created was my own design.
I needed to research the dimensions of the I phone 7 and the size of the lightening port charger. The dimensions of the phone are 5.44 inches x 2.64 inches x 0.28 inches. I also had to keep in mind to round up on the dimensions to allow for some wiggle room and extra space to have a case on your phone. I measured the width of the charging port to be 0.35 inches but rounded to 0.5 inches. The end of the cable is 0.8 inches.
Once I had researched everything, I could start designing my phone holder on inventor. I had an idea of what my design would be, but also designed and added things along the way.
I wanted a simple yet creative phone holder. One that you could use while charging your phone. The general shape is an L-shape. The height is just about 5 inches ( needed to trim to 5 because the other height did not fit in the Maker Bot software). The width is 3 inches, and there is an inch of room to adjust the phone to what ever angle. There is also a hole on the bottom to allow for charging. I also added a H on the back for a personal touch.
What I learned
In this rotation of 3D printing I got more familiar with the inventor software, and it took less time to draw what I needed to draw. The printing process felt a lot easier the 2nd time around. One new thing I learned was how to change the color filament in the printer. I had a really fun time with this printing rotation. Such a neat process.
